Autumn in Derbyshire Collection - October 2026
Derbyshire, England.
Autumn has always been a particularly special time of year for both Aida and me, and this year was no exception.
We made a relatively last-minute trip back to the UK, with one thing firmly in mind: to immerse ourselves in the early autumn colours, textures and atmosphere of the English countryside – and, of course, to make some photographs along the way. Having been born and raised in the UK, I may be a little biased, but there’s something about an English autumn that I find particularly captivating.
Our base for the week was Wirksworth, a wonderfully quirky little market town nestled in the heart of Derbyshire’s Peak District. Aida and I once called Wirksworth home, before eventually making the Pyrenees our permanent home. We have many fond memories of our time there, so returning felt a little like coming home.
During our stay, we revisited some familiar places and explored others, including the Chatsworth House Estate, Bakewell, Matlock and Hathersage. Each offered its own interpretation of autumn, from sweeping landscapes and woodland colours to the quieter details, textures and fleeting moments that make this season so special.
What follows is a collection of some of my favourite images from the trip, celebrating the colours, textures and unmistakable character of autumn in Derbyshire.
